But anyway, this book isn't about techniques so beginners can take it easy, just have fun and paint. However for many of the accompanying examples to the projects, I can imagine beginners will have difficulty replicating what they see. That would be the hands-on part of the book. There are some mini-demonstrations of techniques mixed into the 52 projects. It can be design-based such as using single colours, silhouette, patterns or subject based like drawing landscape, the sun, or techniques-based like using your finger, etc. They are actually themes that you can use for your paintings. Highlight of the book are the 52 projects featured. This is certainly not a book for in depth art theory. Each principle is explained in one line and then there's a caption for an images that illustrates that principle. The book starts with the tools you can use for painting, explains the art principles briefly, talks about some simple techniques and moves on to the 52 project prompts. ![]() The Painting Workbook authored by Alena Hennessy is for beginners and anyone looking to start creating art with paint. ![]() ![]() ![]() The President Street Boys: Growing Up Mafia is the fascinating and eye-opening memoir by Brooklyn-raised Frank DiMatteo, born into a family of hit-men. The sonnet is about the ruins of a statue of Ozymandias. In antiquity, Ozymandias was a Greek name for the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II, who ruled from 1279 BCE to 1213 BCE. The next year, it got a place in Shelley’s collection Rosalind and Helen, A Modern Eclogue with Other Poems (1819). It is a sonnet, first published in The Examiner in 1818. Ozymandias is one of the most anthologized poems written by the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. ![]() ![]() ![]() The second book was just as captivating as the first, maybe more so because it ended on an even more gut-wrenching cliffhanger. “The Wicked King” was a strong second novel, avoiding the often dreaded middle book problem: that it would be nothing but a link between books one and three. They are vicious and brutal, endlessly interesting. However, readers were captivated by the extravagance and the backstabbing in a world full of beings that cannot lie. “The Cruel Prince” had fans thrust into this world of Elfhame, full of magic, fairies and manipulation. The first two books in the series were very strong. This novel has been highly anticipated by fans of the series, but, rest assured, expectations were met. This novel wrapped up loose ends, while still surprising readers through stunning character growth all around. Thank you, Holly Black, for making “The Queen of Nothing” the perfect closer for your “Folk of the Air” trilogy. ![]() |
